About Your Speakers:

Stuart Baron, Esq., is a nationally recognized expert on managing workers’ compensation claims. He is president of the Workers’ Compensation Claims Control (WCCC) and principal in the law firm of Stuart Baron & Associates in Los Alamitos, California. Over the years, Baron has helped hundreds of employers reduce their financial exposure on workers’ compensation claims and improve their bottom line. His experience as both a lawyer and a third-party claims administrator has helped him develop a multifaceted program designed to bring cost containment to the workers’ compensation arena.

Baron has been heavily involved in advocacy in Sacramento. He is quoted frequently by major workers’ compensation and trade journals and is recognized as a leader in proactive management of workers’ compensation claims in the public and private sectors.

Baron has been in the vanguard of reform since 1988. He and his staff have over 18 years of direct experience in all aspects of workers’ compensation, including underwriting, class code determination, ex-mod calculation, related risk management, safety issues, and micro-managing claims. Baron provides claims management services to hundreds of employers to ensure each claim is handled in a timely and expeditious manner by either the carrier or TPA.

Joyce Schulman is vice president of claims for Employers Direct Insurance Company in Agoura Hills, California. Schulman has 22 years’ experience in the workers’ compensation insurance industry and as a consultant providing audits, expert witness testimony, training and insurance program evaluations, and developing best claims practices for the insurance industry.

Schulman began her career with the California State Compensation Insurance Fund and with Industrial Indemnity (as managing director of the California region). She then served as vice president at the Glendale, California office of Fremont Compensation Insurance Company, and later became vice president of claims for the entire western region. She continues to be active in many industry organizations supporting the development of best practices standards for claims professionals.
