EPA & Green Compliance Training
EPA - History and Organization
EPA – History And Organization - In July of 1970, the White House and Congress worked together to establish the Environmental Protection Agency in response to the growing public demand for cleaner water, air, and land. Since 1970, EPA has been working for a cleaner, healthier environment for the American people. EPA works to develop and enforce regulations that implement environmental laws enacted by Congress. EPA is responsible for researching and setting national standards for a variety of environmental programs and delegates to states and tribes the responsibility for issuing permits and for monitoring and enforcing compliance. Where national standards are not met, EPA can issue sanctions and take other steps to assist the states and tribes in reaching the desired levels of environmental quality. The EPA has very strict laws and the penalties can be extremely harsh.
Topics included in this safety video are: diverse responsibilities, EPA Homeland Security Strategy, emergencies, water security, laws and regulations, FIFRA or the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act, CWA - Clean Water Act, The Clean Air Act, The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) , The Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), and are the laws working.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 1990 Clean Air Act
Most of us are familiar with large oil spills, hazardous waste, and materials and certainly we understand the need for clean air. This is perhaps EPA’s major problem to solve. Clean air is easy to talk about, but difficult to control or make cleaner. Understanding the problem can go a long way in educating people about air quality and why it’s so important. The Clean Air Act is the comprehensive Federal law that regulates air emissions from area, stationary, and mobile sources.

More and more companies that use hazardous chemicals are turning to an approach called chemical safety management. Chemical Safety Management, also known as Chemical Process Safety Management or Risk Management Planning, can help you identify potential risks at your site and establish an organized method for reducing those risks. It’s not a formal procedure so much as a way of doing business, an integrated philosophy that considers your entire operation rather that just pieces of it. Chemical Safety Management involves everyone in your company, day in and day out. It’s a continuous process. Learn more
