Installing IE 4.0 (full install or browser only) Start by going to: http://www.microsoft.com/ie/download/ie4win32.htm to choose what OS you have (95/NT for most of you). You will then be instructed to download a .4MB setup file and told to stay online and launch this file and the MS site will install IE 4.0. Don't be alarmed by this (I was initially). Download and execute the ie4setup.exe. In the next step you are given the choice of having MS install IE 4.0 automatically or the choice of downloading the necessary files so you can use them later. This is your choice (personally, I downloaded the files so I could control the final install). On the next screen you are given a choice of what to install/download - this is where you can choose the "Browser Only." By choosing this option, you are basically just upgrading IE 3.x. The Active Desktop and other controls will not be installed. |
