![]() Individuals in positions of power can be seen to exhibit behavior that is idiosyncratic, and at times even contrary to reason. Dr. Gruenfeld explains how the lack of consequences for their actions can allow powerful people to make serious errors in judgment that have far-reaching impacts on themselves and on their organizations. Her research explains the psychological effects of power: single-mindedness in decision making, an orientation to action, disinhibition, and depersonalization of others. Although many positive results come from having power, leaders (and their direct reports) can benefit from an awareness of the risks. Wise organizations establish checks and balances that provide protection from abuses of power and thereby circumvent potentially disastrous consequences. $129.99 [Add to Cart]![]() Produced - 2007 What’s every top manager’s secret to success? In a word: delegate, delegate, delegate. But getting work done through others can often be difficult because it inevitably involves a loss of control. This program outlines a solid process for delegating and gives valuable insight to both new and experienced managers. Delegating responsibility is a dance - a delicate partnership between manager and subordinate involving trust, authority and above all, communication. Brand new managers find delegating to be the hardest part of transitioning into the new role – while many experienced managers still struggle to get it right years after assuming a leadership position. This training program provides a plan for successful delegation, presented in five steps:
Effective delegation accomplishes more than just the task at hand. It also builds trust for future delegations, helps employees develop new skills, reduces managerial stress and improves organizational productivity. Pricing (per user / per title)

Don Maruska has developed a ten-step plan that helps you break through the corporate gridlock to find lasting solutions on even the toughest issues you face. Instead of the confrontation, frustration and inaction that often stymie high-level meetings, Maruska's well-tested process makes it possible to reach superior decisions based on accessing every participant's best thinking and greatest hopes. $129.99 [Add to Cart]![]() This course is also available for online training, see details below. This updated version of Groupthink has been inspired by continuing demand for this important film, and by recognition of the ever-growing need for effective decision-making within groups. This film is a service to those who seek to improve the future by understanding and enhancing the group decision-making process. It's a remarkable portrayal of the group dynamics and behaviors that signal the presence of pitfalls to be avoided. The solutions rest in a clear understanding of groupthink symptoms. After seeing how the groupthink phenomenon may have caused the Challenger disaster, your organization's team processes and consensus-building will be changed forever. This program uses the story of the space shuttle Challenger and mentions other historical events - the Bay of Pigs invasion, Pearl Harbor and the Cuban Missile Crisis - to explore and help demonstrate the phenomenon of groupthink. Participants gain an understanding of the eight symptoms of groupthink and strategies for avoiding it. Program Contents: A 20 minute VHS or DVD and Leader's Guide

![]() 1. Seven common strategic errors that lead to business failure. 2. Why bad strategies happen to good people. 3. How to encourage devil’s advocacy before it’s too late. While we are inspired by business success stories, we are educated by business failures. Chunka Mui and Paul Carroll researched 750 of the most significant business failures of the past quarter-century and found the Number 1 cause of failure was not sloppy execution, poor leadership or bad luck. It was, instead, misguided strategy. Mui gives examples of the seven most common strategic failure patterns: illusions of synergy, misjudged adjacencies, faulty financial engineering and others. He explains that each pattern has predictable red flags. Human beings are hard-wired for bad decision making in complex situations, notes Mui. We hone in on answers before examining all the facts, and then seek evidence to confirm our answers. We are adversely influenced by emotion, loyalties, and group think. However, decision making can be improved when we encourage conflict and question our assumptions. A devil’s advocate review should be built in early to the strategy process, and again at the key design stages and when near completion for a last chance to review the full strategy. Chunka Mui is a fellow with Diamond Management & Technology Consultants and a partner with Cornerloft Partners, LLC. He co-authored with Larry Downes “Unleashing the Killer App, Digital Strategies for Market Dominance,” and co-authored with Paul Carroll “Billion Dollar Lessons.” He holds a BS in Computer Science and Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

![]() Decision making cuts across all human activities. Yet we rarely study—much less apply—the fundamental thinking processes that should be undertaken before we make important decisions. Most of us can't stop our emotions from ultimately having more sway than our rational deliberation. Dr. Howard has spent much of his career studying this struggle between instinct and logic, and provides insights as well as practical suggestions for improving the quality of our decision making. Dr. Howard describes the elements of high-quality decisions: proper framing, clear alternatives, appropriate information, considered preferences, and the logic necessary for an uncertain world. By understanding the critical distinction between decisions and outcomes, and using effective decision analysis tools, we can increase our clarity of action in the personal and professional decisions that shape our lives and organizations. $129.99 [Add to Cart]![]() Humorous Drama Featuring John Cleese and Robert Lindsay A manager has made some poor decisions - making them himself, rather than using his team's experience. Program contains short dramatic vignettes that demonstrate typical every day situations of employees exhibiting questionable ethics. As your managers struggle with the issues of ethics in the workplace, they may realize that your employees often do not have a clear understanding of the difference between ethical and unethical business practices. The success of organizations who train their employees on ethics offers proof that honesty really is the best policy - for both your organization and your employees. That's why it's critical for you to clearly communicate exactly what the ethical and moral expectations are for your employees. Your organization's bottom line depends on it! Values and Ethics can help your organization reduce wasted time and money, while increasing employee morale, confidentiality and productivity. Synopsis Values and Ethics is a series of 12 short dramatic What Would You Do? vignettes. Each situation is followed by a short video break to allow for group discussion. There are volume discounts if you license the entire series or multiple copies of any program. Program Contents: Communicating in a Diverse World. Overview. What is dialogue - contrasting debate and dialogue. Initiating Dialogue - how to do it, where to do it. The skills of Dialogue - Suspension (of judgment, decision making and status); Listening (with empathy, for understanding, showing you care); Discovery (uncovering and sharing hidden assumptions in yourself and others). Includes a dramatization of how Dialogue helps us communicate across job functions, helping improve relations between people at different levels within the organization as well as between different departments or areas of expertise. (25 minutes) Dialogue for Cultural Understanding. We apply the skills of dialogue outlined in Program 1 to challenges faced in culturally diverse work environments. We see a dramatization that demonstrates how dialogue can be used to open communication, uncover hidden assumptions, break down stereotypes and facilitate more productive relationships. (24 minutes) Dialogue between Genders. A dramatized dialogue shows us how the skills we learned in Program 1 can be used to overcome misunderstandings, break down gender stereotypes and improve communications between men and women at work. (21 minutes) Dialogue among Generations. We demonstrate how the skills of dialogue can be used to bridge the personal and professional style differences that exist between employees of different ages. We uncover how divergent personal and world views common to people of different generations can lead to misunderstandings and distrust and how dialogue can help overcome age barriers and build more productive workplace relationships. (24 minutes) Program includes: A comprehensive facilitation guide, reproducible handouts and PowerPoint slides for classroom presentation.
